*Entrants are not required to have formally established a company prior to entering the competition. In this case a tentative or temporary company name can be utilized for registration. Competition will commence on May 10, 2010 until Award Ceremony on October 7, 2010.
Business Development Competition
PURPOSE
The purpose is to help support and develop the growth of small business and to provide tools and devices that can increase the sustain ability of small businesses. The competition provides a network of resources for mentor ship, team creation, education, networking and new venture financing for aspiring entrepreneurs. In addition, all participants receive feedback from qualified judges on the business plans they submit.
The Mega BIZFEST Business Development Competition expects to give out monetary award of working capital and/or up to a value package of $10K for your business. This will be split between 3 categories in the competition – 1) Emerging (up to 4 years in business); 2) Established Business ( 4 to 8 years in business); AND 3) Existing Business (8 years and more). Participants will need to identify and determine which category their application falls into, as the organizers will not do this. The entrants in Category #1, Emerging, including those who are writing a plan for concept, must write a business plan that covers what it takes to make their business successful or their concept a reality. Entrants in Category #2, Established Business and Category #3, Existing Business, must write a business plan to address business elements such as markets, operations, barriers, distribution etc. A business should include the financial data and other relevant requirements as indicated in the Business Development Competition brochure.
All submissions must meet the eligibility criteria: 18 years; Micro Loan Program participant; Business located in the City of Wilmington, State of Delaware or the business owner a City resident; current on federal, state and local business taxes. Finalist must be prepare to provide a 15-20 minute presentation and must agree to meet and attend educational seminars. In addition, finalist must be present at the Award Presentation on Thursday, October 6, 2011.
The winner in each Category of the Competition may receive up to $5K in cash and/or prizes, generally split among the finalists. However, the Competition Organizers, in consultation with the Judging Panel, reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to allocate this funding in any way it deems appropriate. That is, it may provide the funding to one participant, or several participants or to withhold funding from all participants if none of the entrants are deemed to be suitable recipients. All federal/state/local taxes are the responsibility of the recipients.
Start-up companies and individuals considering participation in the competition are encouraged to obtain their own professional advice and utilize various resource organizations. While it is not intended that information submitted to the competition will be made available to the public, sponsors and judges will review it and thus confidentiality is not guaranteed.
Each entrant voluntarily releases all Competition Organizers, Representatives, Judges and Mentors from any liabilities, responsibilities and accountabilities arising from participation in Competition activities. The views of the Judges and the Competition Participants in no way reflect the views of The Office of Economic Development. The Mega BIZFEST Committee reserves the right to disqualify any entrant in violation of the Conditions for the Competition. Winning entrants consent to the use of their names for advertising and publicity purposes through various marketing, online and technology initiatives without additional compensation.

Mega BIZFEST will bring a multi-cultural, business-minded cadre of entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in procurement, financing, outsourcing, networking and franchising, all in one forum. To maximize shared resources and financial support, several business programs have been combined to launch this premier event entitled, MEGABIZFEST: Creating Businesses – Building Strategic Alliances (Finalist will present their plan to the Judges at MegaBizFest - October 6, 2011).
